The Power of Verbal Processing in a Life Coaching Session

Coaching sessions cover a wide range of topics.

I've delved into discussions about review administration, org chart changes, relationship dynamics, family dinners, recent vacations, and everything in between. Life coaching is a versatile space where clients bring their unique needs and concerns to the table.

For many, life coaching sessions revolve around goal attainment. Clients come prepared to focus, aiming to leave with a concrete action plan. This goal-oriented approach is what often comes to mind when people think of life coaching.

Yet, there's another facet to life coaching that's equally as powerful.

I have clients who hire me as their life coach because they crave a deeper understanding of their emotions. Our sessions might begin on a more abstract note, but as we continue, we uncover fears and motivations, ultimately gaining clarity through discussion.

Then there are clients who are verbal processors.

They share their thoughts, and sometimes they talk for a solid five minutes straight. I've had a few apologize for their verbosity, but I'm quick to reassure them – it's perfectly normal. In fact, it's not just normal; it's incredibly valuable.

Consider this: how often do you have the opportunity to process your thoughts and feelings out loud with someone who isn't immersed in your day-to-day situation? It's a rarity in most people's lives. Typically, you're surrounded by coworkers, family members, or your own thoughts, and objective third parties are hard to come by.

Once in a single day, I had two clients who harnessed the power of verbal processing during their life coaching sessions. One was a newcomer to a high-profile position, eager to address his learning curve and establish solid routines. The next client was a new mother navigating a whirlwind of change (as if being a new mom isn't challenging enough!), and she simply wanted her daily routines to feel more stable.

There are multiple benefits of verbal processing in a life coaching session:

1 Sparking New Ideas:
Sometimes, merely articulating your thoughts out loud can spark fresh ideas and insights.

2 Opportunity to Reframe:
Verbal processing offers an opportunity to reframe your perspective on a situation, helping you see it in a new light.

3 Identifying Limiting Beliefs:
Life coaches can support you in identifying and challenging limiting beliefs that may be holding you back.

4 Hearing Yourself:
Hearing your own narrative out loud can provide valuable clarity and a deeper understanding of your own story.

In life coaching, the power of verbal processing lies in its ability to transform thoughts into tangible insights. It offers a safe space to voice your inner musings, knowing that someone objective is there to listen and guide the conversation.

Whether you're focused on concrete goals or seeking to understand your emotions at a deeper level, remember that verbal processing in a life coaching session is a valuable tool at your disposal. If you have questions or want to take that next step, feel free to reach out and schedule your complimentary life coaching session.

With joy,

Sarah
