The Layers of this Blog (and I)

Writing is something I’ve always enjoyed.

When I was younger, writing stories would let my imagination run wild. I wrote poems and stories through high school. In college, LiveJournals and Xanga were a hot trend, and I’d blog about my life.

Then, in my 20s, when I began to work in the “real world,” writing was one of the first things that went. More and more, I’d forgotten that place I went to when I’d write. I’d find old things I wrote, and it felt like a version of myself that I barely recognized.

When I decided to pursue coaching, I felt I had permission to write, like I didn’t through my 20s.

I found myself writing more, but I never “published.” It still felt a little vulnerable to put things on paper (or screen) and let them live there.  Forever.

But through these past few years, I’ve felt much more motivated to write. Writing has helped me to process. But also, writing has helped me to express.

And maybe it’s the changes that occurred from 2020 (we’ve all experienced a way we’ve seen the world differently since then). Or maybe it’s me just owning my voice as I age. But I feel like I have lots to say, lots to share, lots to express. And I’d like to think that some of my takes are unique.

So here’s entry one of my blog.

My intention is to share a lot, including –

  • A deeper insight in to coaching, and what happens in sessions

  • Some of my own takes on leadership and team development and why it matters so much

  • Self care, and how we might be drastically misunderstanding it, but we need it more than ever

  • And some of my own hot takes, like why only external validation is a slippery slope, or why conversations with those we love the most can feel the hardest, or what’s it’s like being consciously child free at almost 40.

Here, I’ll share all the layers.  Because one thing I know to be true is that some of the best stuff in life (and some of the hardest stuff in life) is so layered, and the lens we bring to the table makes a difference on what we can see.

Welcome to the blog: Layered Lenses.

See you soon,

Sarah
